In My 2023 Era

I don't post anymore; we can start there.  ...Just kidding. I'm here and I didn't get to put a recap on 2023 before the stroke of midnight on 12/32/31. Oh well. Last year was QUITE the year and then some! What. A. Year! I feel like the entire year itself passed in a flash. I have a calendar on my desk at work and I feel like the months were being torn off faster than I could make notes and cross days off one by one. I'm starting to see in my old age that the phrase 'time is a thief' is all too true. I was a fast year, a hectic year, but one of the very best I've had so far. There were big challenges and some tears but I'm grateful for the lessons and trial by fire as they get me ready for 2024. Read on for all of my weekend word vomit... ____________________________________________________________________________________ Every year I make a -Goals- list and I had a pretty lengthy one at the start of 2023. Things like furthering my academics, getting some...

Some things never change...and some running recaps.

How on earth has it already been 6 months since my last post? SO much has happened since 2022 wrapped up and all good things might I add. Also, if you haven't tried taking a social media hiatus, at least temporarily from one platform or another, I really recommend it. I deactivated my FB earlier this year due to the annoying amount of time I spend scrolling so I just decided it was time for a break. It's all Insta, Blogger and Poshmark for me now. At least until I decide I miss FB which shouldn't be anytime soon ;) Having my breast implants removed has never been something I would talk about on my public page but since I’ve had the opportunity to talk to a few people about it I don’t mind blogging over it lol. I have felt all the positive difference in the world in my athletic performance and overall body health since having my plastic taken out. My skin cleared up and I haven’t had a single migraine since my surgery in November. I used to get the worst kind of debilit...

Easy until it isn't - Part 2

November brought about another challenge that had been at least eleven months in the making. If you Google BII (breast implant illness), you will see several articles and YouTube videos come up about women who are electively choosing to have their cosmetic breast implants removed. Remember those vision distortions I mentioned earlier that happened in Richmond? This along with migraines, were a new phenomenon I was experiencing ever since I had decided to get cosmetic surgery in February of 2019. I was having them at least twice a week and on a typical day of getting one, I could expect to be out of commission and unable to work from 20-30 minutes at a time until my vision would come back. Looking at my phone, computer, TV’s or monitor devices at work were absolutely out of the question and a few times while working on inpatient studies in the hospital, I would have to take a long break to go for a walk or just sit in the staircase with my head in my hands until I could see again. We ...

Easy until it isn’t-Part 1

“I’m glad it’s nearly December.” At least I’m thinking this while I’m mulling over open thoughts sitting in my coffee shop on a very warm Saturday in November. By the time I post this it’ll be nearly the end of the year which is specific to a date I have in my countdown app, December 28. The 2022 year has passed faster than I could have ever thought and we’re now in the cusp of beginning another calendar year. This year needed to pass quickly, in my opinion. “Pressure makes diamonds.”- quoting the words of a famous tumbler post and also the words of my director at work during one of our leadership retreats. The year 2022 was all about adjusting to pressure, refining myself, resilience and not taking no for an answer. All of these things took me through the emotional, mental, and physical ringers only to spit out a stronger and more confident version of me. I’m not sure how much I believe in manifesting good energy, it seems silly or something bearing a similarity to reading a...

I always feel like, somebody's watching me...

Is there truly anything more upsetting than realizing that you’re being watched? And I’m not just talking about the ‘Mystery Meat’ rice Krispy treats that I’m making for a Halloween gathering. The bag of gummy eyeballs that I got off of Amazon are very realistic when you hold one in your hand. I can’t speak much on the taste of it, but it adorns a red colored blob of rice Krispy treats too perfectly! Thank you 'Livinwithmb' for the inspiration! Particularly cute, a bit disturbing but a fun idea.  I’m more specifically talking about being watched when you least expect it or feeling like someone is coming up behind you. Ladies, you know the feeling I’m talking about, it’s that invisible instinct that we have that alerts us of a threat or if our space is about to be invaded. It’s something I think God gave us to help us know if we’re in danger and something I’m very grateful for.  Let’s just say as a female runner, the roadways have been particularly odd lately. Whether it’s bee...

Football, bonfires, Halloween, Hoodies, RUNNING! It's finally Fall in Florida!

Running has always been there for me, let’s start with that. And now that it doesn’t feel like my flesh sets itself on fire when I walk outside, it’s the best time of year to enjoy my favorite pastime outdoors instead of on the treadmill! This past year I’ve had the pleasure of utilizing a running coach and have benefited a lot from her instruction. Training through the summer was grueling with the spiking temperatures and suffocating humidity. I did my best every weekend run, to time them as early in the morning as possible to at least get ahead of the crippling Florida temperatures that only rise as the day ages. Not as successful at this because even at 5:45 in the morning in Florida, it’s already warm and the heat is just as bad as the early morning humidity it seems. It’s sticky, nasty and makes you feel like you have weights tied to your feet as you smash pavement. It has been my goal all summer, to make every weekend run early enough to catch the sunrise on the bridge lead...

Just waxing poetic on this rainy Saturday afternoon…

If you don’t make a point to run in the rain, do you even love running? One thing I’m learning about being a dedicated runner during the summer, is it doesn’t matter what you wear or how much you hydrate, the heat is horrible. It’s more than horrible some days, it’s painful especially depending on the distance being ran. The elevated temperatures add an invisible challenge to the already lengthy miles and the humidity makes any experienced runner feel like they have weights tied to their feet. Most folks plan their outdoor activities around avoiding the rain but as a runner, I make a point to encounter it. It’s something to look forward to during the painful afternoon or early evening strides around the island. Most often it seems the rain comes later in the day as opposed to the early morning. The morning can be a much easier time to run although the humidity can be suffocating while adding additional weight. I will say though, while the dawning humidity is dense and annoying to ac...
