Life Lately

Shoutout to HGTV for setting unrealistic expectations on how long it ACTUALLY takes to renovate a home! We’ve been residents of Fleming Island for exactly four months now and have plenty still in front of us to build our dream home. Or as I’ve been referring to it, the DINK shack! Mavs got used to the new space really quickly, he likes the backyard but loves his spot in the corner chair of our bedroom the most.
Our kitchen has been completely redone, what a much-needed change. I’m loving the white and marble look and looking forward to pairing some light grey matching furniture pieces for the living room. My Pinterest is completely packed full of ideas but we’re taking baby steps until we’ve finished with everything! Next up is setting up the living room and being able to host some gatherings in the coming months.
Not far from our house there’s a nice little wooded bike trial that takes you to a part of the St. Johns River. We don’t have bikes, but it made for a really nice walking trail for these cooler afternoons. I loved getting to see Black Creek from this view. This is the part of the river that my Grannie used to water ski on as a teenager. So as history has it, I’m not the first Carolyne to reside in Fleming/Green Cove. My mom’s family tree extends at least eight generations in Clay County and the Green Cove area. My mom being born and raised in Green Cove grew up on her parent’s cattle farm somewhere deeper in Green Cove near Penny Farms. I haven’t been there though. Farm sold a really long time ago before I was born. My Grandparents last home before they both passed away in 2020, is located just across the street from where our new home is. I guess I’m technically new to the neighborhood, but this area has felt like home for a long time. We really love it out here.
Picking back up on an old hobby! Once upon a time, during the undergrad years, me and a few friends came to this gym off Phillips at least once a week. It was so much fun and I had such fine tuned upper body strength in my early twenties! I’m starting from ground zero and utilizing the assistance of the harnesses but hope to be bouldering in a few months. The bouldering area is much lower elevations and smaller walls with thicker crash pads 😉 I miss being able to climb with ease and hope I can work my way back to that before the next OCR. Grip strength/endurance is so important and I’m missing it!
I call it my Saturday Spot when I’m not working. The Springs Coffee shop is still the best place to spend a Saturday afternoon on the laptop since the hubs generally works on Saturday’s. I fill my time with work emails, errands and top it all off with a cappuccino and blog topics. Its so close to the house and their PSL is top tier 😊 soaking that up before it’s discontinued. The environment I have to say is pretty hip, which sounds stupid saying at thirty years old lol but it’s very laid back and plays soft indie music which I think sparks some creative thinking.
All in all, life is great right now. Life is moving is still moving at a speed of a million wtf’s per hour but I’m grateful to be where we are now and working towards some exciting goals. Lastly, my new favorite podcast featured my Apple review on their page and I nearly DIED!
Here’s to the start of a new year~ Keep on smiling Xoxoxoxo

Some things never change...and some running recaps.

How on earth has it already been 6 months since my last post? SO much has happened since 2022 wrapped up and all good things might I add. Also, if you haven't tried taking a social media hiatus, at least temporarily from one platform or another, I really recommend it. I deactivated my FB earlier this year due to the annoying amount of time I spend scrolling so I just decided it was time for a break. It's all Insta, Blogger and Poshmark for me now. At least until I decide I miss FB which shouldn't be anytime soon ;) Having my breast implants removed has never been something I would talk about on my public page but since I’ve had the opportunity to talk to a few people about it I don’t mind blogging over it lol. I have felt all the positive difference in the world in my athletic performance and overall body health since having my plastic taken out. My skin cleared up and I haven’t had a single migraine since my surgery in November. I used to get the worst kind of debilit...

In My 2023 Era

I don't post anymore; we can start there.  ...Just kidding. I'm here and I didn't get to put a recap on 2023 before the stroke of midnight on 12/32/31. Oh well. Last year was QUITE the year and then some! What. A. Year! I feel like the entire year itself passed in a flash. I have a calendar on my desk at work and I feel like the months were being torn off faster than I could make notes and cross days off one by one. I'm starting to see in my old age that the phrase 'time is a thief' is all too true. I was a fast year, a hectic year, but one of the very best I've had so far. There were big challenges and some tears but I'm grateful for the lessons and trial by fire as they get me ready for 2024. Read on for all of my weekend word vomit... ____________________________________________________________________________________ Every year I make a -Goals- list and I had a pretty lengthy one at the start of 2023. Things like furthering my academics, getting some...

Easy until it isn't - Part 2

November brought about another challenge that had been at least eleven months in the making. If you Google BII (breast implant illness), you will see several articles and YouTube videos come up about women who are electively choosing to have their cosmetic breast implants removed. Remember those vision distortions I mentioned earlier that happened in Richmond? This along with migraines, were a new phenomenon I was experiencing ever since I had decided to get cosmetic surgery in February of 2019. I was having them at least twice a week and on a typical day of getting one, I could expect to be out of commission and unable to work from 20-30 minutes at a time until my vision would come back. Looking at my phone, computer, TV’s or monitor devices at work were absolutely out of the question and a few times while working on inpatient studies in the hospital, I would have to take a long break to go for a walk or just sit in the staircase with my head in my hands until I could see again. We ...
